Privacy Policy
What information we collect, how we use and disclose it, the choices available to you, and how we protect it.
Chaperone Health provides peer support, AI-assisted support and navigation, self-guided tools, assessments, programs, resources, and related support services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and disclose it, the choices available to you, and how we protect it.
Chaperone is intended only for adults age 18 and older. The initial consumer launch is limited to Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
For additional information about sensitive support and consumer health data, see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice.

Support and consumer health information
When you use Chaperone for support, you may choose to provide information about your wellbeing, experiences, relationships, behaviors, goals, concerns, or support needs. This may come from Peer Coach conversations, AI-assisted interactions, assessments, check-ins, tools, programs, topic selections, support preferences, resources, activities, and safety-related interactions.
Member attachments may include photos, screenshots, PDF documents, and plain-text files, including information about health or other sensitive matters. When you upload a file, Chaperone uses AI to prepare a factual description for your review. You may request corrections or regeneration, approve the description, or cancel sharing. Your Peer Coach receives only the description you approve and any message you choose to send, not the original attachment, raw extracted file contents, or unapproved descriptions. You may update an approved description after sharing.
Chaperone may also generate information from those interactions, such as conversation summaries, topic classifications, recommendations, progress information, and other support-related insights. We treat this category of information with heightened care.
Communications with Chaperone
If you contact our Help Desk, submit feedback, report a problem, respond to a survey, or otherwise communicate with us outside a support conversation, we may collect your contact information, the contents of the request, related account or technical information, and information needed to investigate or respond.

First-party product analytics
Chaperone does not use third-party analytics, advertising, session-replay, or cross-site tracking technology in the user-facing product. Limited product analytics are first-party and stored in Chaperone systems. At launch, these analytics capture defined interaction events such as feature impressions, call-to-action clicks, ratings, and dismissals. The event schema excludes free-text content and personal data fields.
Cookies and similar technologies
Chaperone sets only cookies and similar storage needed for session management, security, and user preferences. These include a secure session cookie, a cross-site-request-forgery security token, and limited preference values such as time zone, language, and short-lived onboarding state. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Information from external health sources
The initial Chaperone service does not ingest medical records or identifiable health-related information from external health sources such as healthcare providers, health information exchanges, fitness or health applications, or payer clinical feeds.

AI-assisted processing
AI may help summarize information, support navigation, identify relevant topics, recommend tools or resources, support Coach matching, assist Peer Coaches, and personalize portions of the Chaperone experience. Private Chaperone conversations and consumer health data may be processed by service providers that help deliver these features.
For member attachments, AI processes the uploaded file to generate a factual description that the member can review, correct, regenerate, or cancel before approving it for a Peer Coach. Coaches do not receive the original file or raw extracted content. Existing safety and privacy restrictions apply to attachment processing and corrections.
Chaperone does not authorize third-party AI providers to use private Chaperone conversations or consumer health data to train their general-purpose AI models. AI traffic is routed through a governed AI gateway configured to exclude providers that log or train on prompts. Any user-derived information used in Chaperone’s internal model-improvement datasets is de-identified before it enters those datasets.
Aggregated and de-identified information
We may create aggregated or de-identified information that is not reasonably linked to an identifiable individual and use it to understand platform usage, evaluate service performance, improve Chaperone, measure outcomes and utilization, and develop or evaluate features. We maintain de-identified information in de-identified form and do not use it to identify individual users.
3. How We Disclose Information
We do not make private Chaperone information publicly available. We may disclose information in the circumstances below.
Who may see your conversations: Your assigned Peer Coach and other authorized Coaches may access information needed to support you and maintain continuity. Authorized Chaperone personnel may also access relevant conversations when necessary to answer support requests, review service quality, supervise Coaches, investigate safety or security concerns, or operate the Service. Access is based on role and operational need.
Peer Coaches and authorized Chaperone personnel
Information may be available to Peer Coaches or authorized Chaperone personnel when reasonably necessary to provide support, maintain continuity, supervise or support Coaches, conduct quality review, respond to Help Desk issues, address safety concerns, and operate Chaperone. Access depends on role and operational need.
Service providers
We use service providers for functions such as hosting, database and file storage, realtime message transport, email and SMS delivery, AI processing, scheduled job delivery, application monitoring, security, and infrastructure. These providers may process information only as needed to perform authorized services and are subject to applicable contractual, confidentiality, privacy, and security requirements. We minimize the information provided to each provider based on the role it performs.
At your direction
We may disclose information when you expressly direct or authorize us to do so. Future clinician, employer, payer, or partner sharing features will be governed by the applicable product experience, permissions, disclosures, and consent requirements and are not part of the initial consumer launch unless specifically offered to you.
Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary and permitted or required by law, including to comply with lawful legal process, protect legal rights, investigate fraud or security threats, or address serious safety concerns.
Business transactions
If Chaperone is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar transaction, information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction subject to applicable law and appropriate protections.
4. No Sale, Advertising, or Third-Party Tracking
Our launch position
Chaperone does not sell personal information or consumer health data. We do not share information with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not use third-party advertising, analytics, session-replay, or cross-site tracking technologies in the user-facing product.
Chaperone does not use or disclose the contents of private support conversations, assessment responses, tool responses, or other consumer health data for third-party targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Consumer Health Data
Information about your mental, emotional, behavioral, or physical wellbeing may receive heightened protection under applicable privacy laws. Chaperone has adopted additional practices for this information.
Please review our Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice, which describes categories of consumer health data, sources, purposes, processing, disclosure, AI-assisted use, and rights.
6. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
Depending on applicable law and our privacy practices, you may request to confirm whether we process information about you, access information, request a portable copy of eligible information, correct inaccuracies, delete information, withdraw consent for consent-based processing, obtain information about certain disclosures, and appeal a privacy decision.
Submit a request through our Your Privacy Rights page or email privacy@chaperone.health. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
We generally aim to respond to verified privacy requests within 45 days. Verified consumer-health deletion requests are processed within 30 days. Where processing depends on your consent, we will stop the applicable consent-based processing as soon as practicable and no later than 15 days after a valid withdrawal request, subject to legally permitted exceptions.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and for legitimate operational, security, safety, legal, and compliance needs. Retention may depend on account status, the type of information, security and fraud-prevention needs, safety or incident documentation, legal obligations, dispute resolution, audit requirements, and backup lifecycles.
Original member attachment files are ordinarily retained for seven days and then automatically deleted, subject to applicable safety, legal, and other permitted retention exceptions. Approved attachment descriptions and related conversation messages may remain after an original expires. If you delete an attachment, its description is removed from the Coach conversation; deleting or expiring an attachment does not automatically erase other conversation messages or previously generated responses.
When we authenticate a valid account or consumer-health deletion request, Chaperone removes covered identifiable account data from active systems within 30 days, subject to permitted exceptions. Where applicable, we notify relevant processors or service providers that retain covered data so they can delete or return it consistent with applicable contracts and law. Data in backups may remain until it rotates out through the normal backup lifecycle and is not used for unrelated purposes.
De-identified information is not maintained as identifiable account data. Information used for internal model improvement is de-identified before inclusion in the improvement dataset.
8. Data Security
Chaperone uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. These include encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, multi-factor authentication for privileged access, audit logging, monitoring, environment separation, backup and recovery controls, vulnerability management, and incident-response processes.
For more information, see our Security page.
9. Communications
Chaperone communicates with members by email, SMS, and in-app notification according to the settings and preferences available for each type of communication. These communications may include authentication codes, account notices, security alerts, invitations, session or support reminders, and service notifications.
10. Age Requirements
Chaperone is available only to adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly offer the adult service to or knowingly collect personal information through it from individuals under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a person under 18, we may suspend or close the account and take reasonable steps to delete the information as appropriate, subject to applicable legal, safety, and security requirements.
11. Third-Party Websites and Services
Chaperone may link to websites, resources, crisis services, or other services operated by third parties. When you leave Chaperone and use a third-party service, that third party’s privacy practices apply. A link from Chaperone does not mean Chaperone controls or is responsible for the third party’s privacy, security, content, or practices.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Chaperone, our technology, or legal requirements change. If we make material changes to how we collect, use, or disclose personal information, we will provide appropriate notice and obtain additional consent where required by law. The effective date at the top of the published policy will identify the current version.
